You can’t pay ChatGPT to recommend your business, but you can make it far easier for AI tools to find, trust, and name you. Start by checking what ChatGPT, Gemini, and Google AI say about you today. Then fix the gaps: clear service pages, consistent listings, and real reviews and mentions on sites AI already trusts.
Here’s the uncomfortable part. Right now, someone in Dubai Marina or Al Majaz is asking ChatGPT for “a reliable [your service] near me." The answer names three businesses. If yours isn’t one of them, that customer may never visit Google at all.
This guide shows you how to run a free 15-minute AI visibility check, why UAE businesses get left out, and a 30-day plan to fix it.
Key takeaways
- There is no form, fee or ad that makes ChatGPT recommend you. Visibility is earned through public, consistent and verifiable information.
- Test before you change anything. Use the prompt set below for your emirate, in English and Arabic.
- Most UAE gaps are fixable in a month: a mismatched trade licence name, an English-only site, thin service pages or blocked AI crawlers.
- AEO and generative engine optimisation build on good SEO. They don’t replace it.

Can you actually get ChatGPT to recommend your business?
Yes, but only indirectly. OpenAI offers no listing form, paid placement or “business profile” that secures a recommendation. ChatGPT names businesses it can find, understand and verify across the web. Your job is to make that easy, then measure whether it worked.
It helps to know the three outcomes you are aiming for, because they are not the same:
- Mentioned: your business name appears somewhere in the answer.
- Cited: the answer links to your website or a page about you as a source.
- Recommended: the answer presents you as a good fit for that customer’s request.
A business can be mentioned without being recommended, and a page can be cited while a competitor gets the recommendation. Track all three.
ChatGPT answers in two ways. For some questions it relies on what it learned in training. For local and current questions, it usually searches the web first and then summarises what it finds. That second mode is where a small UAE business can win quickly, because fresh, clear and well-structured pages get picked up.
Be wary of anyone who guarantees a ChatGPT placement. AI answers change with the wording, the location and the day. Nobody controls them, including us.
Why does AI search matter for businesses in the UAE right now?
More than half of UAE consumers now use AI assistants, while businesses are only starting to measure their place in those answers. That gap is your opportunity.
| Finding | Source and date |
|---|---|
| 58% of UAE and Saudi respondents have used generative AI tools such as ChatGPT or Gemini; 55% of those users use them weekly or daily | Deloitte Digital Consumer Trends 2025, 1 September 2025 (2,000 consumers aged 18–50) |
| 62% of UAE businesses have optimised content for conversational queries, but only 31% monitor how their brand appears in AI-generated answers | Salesforce State of Commerce, UAE findings, August 2026 |
| 51% of UAE online shoppers already use AI-powered chat tools while shopping online | DHL E-Commerce Trends Report 2026, via Khaleej Times |
| Google AI Mode launched in English across the Middle East and North Africa, then in Modern Standard Arabic | Google MENA blog, October 2025 |
Three things follow for a UAE business owner:
- Your customers are already asking AI. Tourists, new residents and busy professionals use it to shortlist clinics, contractors, restaurants and agencies.
- Most of your competitors aren’t tracking it. If fewer than a third of businesses monitor their AI presence, a small business that starts now can get ahead of bigger names.
- The UAE asks in two languages. With AI Mode working in Arabic, a business that only publishes in English can miss a share of local questions.
What is the difference between SEO, AEO and generative engine optimisation (GEO)?
SEO gets your pages ranked in Google’s list of links. AEO (answer engine optimisation) gets your content used as the direct answer to a question. GEO (generative engine optimisation) gets your brand named and cited inside AI-written answers from ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Copilot.
| SEO | AEO | GEO | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Goal | Rank in search results | Be the answer to a specific question. | Be named or cited in AI-generated answers. |
| Where it shows | Google and Bing results pages | Featured snippets, AI overviews, voice answers | ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot, Google AI Mode |
| What it rewards | Relevance, links, technical health | Clear question-and-answer content, structured data | Consistent facts about your business across many trusted sources |
| How you measure it | Rankings, clicks, impressions | Snippets and AI Overview appearances | Mentions, citations, and share of voice across a fixed prompt set |
| Typical first results | 3–6 months | Weeks to a few months | Weeks to a few months, varies by platform |
The three overlap heavily. AI tools that search the web still lean on pages that search engines can crawl and trust. In practice, good AEO and GEO start with good SEO, then add clearer answers, consistent business data, and off-site mentions.
You’ll also see the terms AIO (AI optimisation) and LLM optimisation. They describe the same goal: making your business easy for AI systems to understand and recommend.
How do ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI decide which UAE businesses to name?
None of these platforms publishes a ranking formula. What we can see is that they favour businesses whose details are easy to find, match across sources and are backed by independent proof. When AI tools search the web, they piece together a picture of your business from several places.
| Source | What AI learns from it | What “good” looks like in the UAE |
|---|---|---|
| Your website | What you do, where, for whom, and how to contact you | One clear page per main service, naming the emirates and areas you cover |
| Google Business Profile | Category, location, hours, reviews, photos | Verified profile, correct category, service area, recent reviews |
| Bing Places | The same facts for Microsoft’s index, which Copilot draws on | Claimed and matched your Google profile |
| Apple Business Connect | Your details in Apple Maps and Siri | Claimed, especially for walk-in businesses |
| Directories and associations | Confirmation you are a real, licensed business | Listings that match your trade licence name and address |
| Reviews | Whether customers trust you, and for what | Detailed reviews that mention the service and area |
| Articles, lists, and forums | Independent opinions about you | Mentions in local media, “best of” lists, Reddit, or Quora threads |
The common thread is consistency. If your website says “Dubai Marina," your Google profile says "JLT," and a directory still shows an old Deira address, AI tools hedge or skip you.
There is also a technical gate. ChatGPT uses a crawler called OAI-SearchBot to find pages for its search answers. OpenAI says sites that block it won’t appear in ChatGPT search answers, and that changes to your robots.txt file can take about 24 hours to apply. A separate crawler, GPTBot, relates to model training, and blocking it does not remove you from search answers.
How do you run a free AI visibility check for your business in 15 minutes?
Ask five AI tools the same handful of customer questions, name your emirate in every prompt, and record who gets mentioned. It is the same method we use in our own free check. All you need is a spreadsheet and 15 minutes.
Step 1: Set up a fair test (2 minutes).
- Use a fresh chat or a private browser window so past chats don’t skew the answer.
- In ChatGPT, make sure web search is used. A local question usually triggers it automatically.
- Always name the place inside the prompt (“in Al Nahda, Sharjah”). Don’t rely on your device location.
- Write down the date. You’ll repeat the exact same prompts in 30 days.
Step 2: Ask five types of questions (8 minutes)
Replace the brackets with your details:
- Brand check: “What do you know about [your business name] in [emirate]?”
- Category and place: “Who are the best [service] providers in [area, emirate]?”
- Real customer need: “I need [specific job] in [area] this week. Who do you recommend?”
- Comparison: “Compare [your business] and [competitor] for [service] in [emirate].”
- Arabic version: your category question in Arabic (examples below).
Run them in ChatGPT, Gemini, Google (AI Overviews or AI Mode), Perplexity, and Microsoft Copilot.
Step 3: Use prompts that match your emirate
| Emirate | English prompt example | Arabic prompt example |
|---|---|---|
| Dubai | Best [service] company in Business Bay, Dubai? | ما هي أفضل شركة [الخدمة] في الخليج التجاري، دبي؟ |
| Abu Dhabi | Reliable [service] near Al Reem Island, Abu Dhabi? | أبحث عن شركة [الخدمة] موثوقة في جزيرة الريم، أبوظبي. بماذا تنصحني؟ |
| Al Ain | Who offers [service] in Al Ain? | من يقدم خدمة [الخدمة] في العين؟ |
| Sharjah | Affordable [service] in Al Nahda, Sharjah? | شركة [الخدمة] بأسعار مناسبة في النهدة، الشارقة |
| Ajman | Best [service] in Ajman for small businesses? | أفضل شركة [الخدمة] في عجمان للشركات الصغيرة |
| Ras Al Khaimah | Recommended [service] in Ras Al Khaimah? | ما هي شركات [الخدمة] الموصى بها في رأس الخيمة؟ |
| Fujairah | Who does [service] in Fujairah? | من يقدم خدمة [الخدمة] في الفجيرة؟ |
| Umm Al Quwain | Is there a good [service] in Umm Al Quwain? | هل توجد شركة [الخدمة] جيدة في أم القيوين؟ |
Tip: swap in the neighbourhood your customers actually use, such as Dubai Marina, JLT, Khalifa City, Muwaileh or Al Hamra.
Step 4: Score every answer (5 minutes)
Copy this sheet and fill in one row per prompt and platform:
| Prompt | Platform | Mentioned? | Described correctly? | Competitors named | Sources cited |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Best [service] in Business Bay | ChatGPT | No | – | Competitor A, Competitor B | Directory X, Competitor A website |
| What do you know about [brand]? | Gemini | Yes | Wrong hours, old address | – | Old directory listing |
The last column is the most useful one. The sites AI cites for your competitors are the sites you need to appear on.

Why is your business not showing up in ChatGPT or Google AI answers?
Usually because AI tools can’t find enough clear, matching, and independent information about you. In the UAE, these nine gaps come up most often:
- Your name doesn’t match your trade licence. Your license says “Al Noor Technical Services LLC”, Instagram says “AlNoor Tech” and Google says “Al Noor AC Repair." AI tools may treat these as three different businesses or as none.
- Your address tells the wrong story. Many companies are licensed in a free zone but serve customers across the city. If your site lists only the free zone office, AI may not connect you to the areas you actually cover.
- You only have a homepage. One page saying “we do everything” can’t answer “who does villa waterproofing in Arabian Ranches?”. Each main service needs its own page.
- Your site is English-only. Customers who ask in Arabic get answers built from Arabic pages, which may belong to your competitors.
- Your site is hard to read for machines. Content that only loads through heavy scripts, pages behind pop-ups, or a robots.txt file that blocks OAI-SearchBot or PerplexityBot all reduce your chances.
- Your profiles are unclaimed or out of date. An unverified Google Business Profile, no Bing Places listing or an old phone number weakens trust.
- Your reviews are few or vague. “Great service” helps less than a review that names the job and area: “fixed our AC in Al Barsha the same day”.
- Nobody else talks about you. If no local article, association page or “best of” list mentions you, AI has no outside confirmation.
- You live on WhatsApp and Instagram only. Plenty of UAE businesses run on social media. AI tools still need a crawlable website with your services, areas and contact details in plain text.
How to get ChatGPT to recommend your business: a 30-day AEO plan for UAE businesses
Fix access first, then clarity, then proof, then retest. Doing it in this order means every later step builds on something AI tools can actually read.
| When | What to do | Done when |
|---|---|---|
| Days 1–2 | Run the 15-minute check and save your scoring sheet. | You have a dated baseline for 5 prompts on 5 platforms. |
| Week 1 | Check robots.txt to allow OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot, and Googlebot. Make sure key pages load fast, without logins or blocking pop-ups. | Your main service pages are crawlable and load in under 3 seconds on mobile |
| Week 2 | Rewrite your top 3 service pages: what you do, which emirates and areas, who it suits, prices or price ranges if you can, and how to contact you. Start each page with a 40–60 word direct answer and add an FAQ | Each page answers one real customer question in its first paragraph. |
| Week 2 | Add structured data: Organization or LocalBusiness on the site, FAQPage on pages with FAQs. | Schema passes Google’s Rich Results Test. |
| Week 3 | Make your name, address, phone, and services match your trade license across Google Business Profile, Bing Places, Apple Business Connect, and your main directories. | One version of your business exists online. |
| Week 3 | Publish an Arabic version of your most important service page | Arabic page is live and linked from the English one |
| Week 3 | Ask recent customers for honest reviews that mention the service and area | New detailed reviews are coming in |
| Week 4 | Get listed on 2–3 sites AI cited for your competitors: a local directory, an industry association, a “best of” list | At least one new independent mention |
| Day 30 | Rerun the exact same prompts and compare | You can see what changed and what to fix next |
A few honest notes:
- Results vary by platform. Answers that use live web search can reflect a new or updated page once it is crawled. Answers built from training data change much more slowly.
- llms.txt is optional. It is a small file that summarises your site for AI tools. It is cheap to add, but no major platform has confirmed it as a ranking signal.
- Don’t fake reviews or buy mentions. It breaks platform rules and the trust you are trying to build.
Does AEO work differently in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and the Northern Emirates?
The method is the same everywhere. What changes is the competition, the language mix and the details customers include in their questions. Here is where we would put the emphasis in each emirate:
| Emirate | What customers tend to ask | Where to focus first |
|---|---|---|
| Dubai | Neighbourhood-level questions (“in JLT”, “near Dubai Hills”), often in English, often from new residents and visitors | Name the real areas you serve on each service page. Expect heavy competition, so detailed reviews and outside mentions matter most |
| Abu Dhabi | Questions about credentials, licensing and reliability, in English and Arabic | Show licences and accreditations clearly. Publish Arabic versions of key pages. Keep Abu Dhabi details separate from any Dubai office |
| Al Ain | Local, practical questions, frequently in Arabic | A clear Al Ain service page only if you genuinely serve it, plus a complete Google Business Profile |
| Sharjah | Price and value questions from families and small businesses | Publish price ranges, opening hours and areas such as Al Nahda, Al Majaz and Muwaileh |
| Ajman and Umm Al Quwain | “Is there a good [service] in Ajman?” | Lower competition means profile and directory fixes can show results quickly |
| Ras Al Khaimah | Tourism, hospitality and trade questions | Seasonal content and clear service areas across Al Hamra, the city and nearby communities |
| Fujairah | “Who serves Fujairah?” (fewer local providers) | State plainly that you serve the east coast, including travel times or visit days |
Two UAE-wide points apply in every emirate:
- Plan around Ramadan and the big seasons. Customer questions change during Ramadan, Eid, the summer slowdown and the winter peak. Publish seasonal answers a few weeks before demand rises.
- Never build city-swapped pages. A page that just replaces “Dubai” with “Sharjah” gives AI tools nothing new. Only create a location page when you can describe how you actually serve that place.
What should you avoid when trying to appear in AI answers?
Avoid anything that promises a shortcut. AI tools reward businesses that are real, clear and consistent, and most “hacks” undermine exactly that.
- Paying for “guaranteed” ChatGPT placement. No agency can guarantee it, because no one controls the answers.
- Buying reviews or writing your own. It breaks Google’s policies and can get reviews removed or your profile restricted.
- Mass directory submissions. Hundreds of low-quality listings add noise. A handful of trusted, accurate listings beats them.
- Stuffing pages with “best in Dubai." Repeating a phrase doesn’t make you the answer. Specific facts do.
- Changing page dates without changing the content. Freshness only helps when something useful actually changed.
- Rewording your test prompts until you appear. Keep the same prompts each month, or you’re measuring luck, not progress.
- Ignoring SEO. AI tools that search the web still depend on pages search engines can crawl and trust.
Should you do AEO yourself or hire an AEO agency in Dubai?
Do it yourself if you run one location with a few simple services and can spare 2–3 hours a week. Get help if you serve several emirates, need Arabic content, have technical website problems, or work in a crowded field such as real estate, clinics, legal or home services.
| Do it yourself | Freelancer | Local Dubai agency | Knoxify Digital | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cost | Your time | Lower | Highest (office and account-manager overheads) | From AED 3,500 per month |
| AI visibility check | Manual, as above | Varies | Often included | Free, across 5 AI platforms |
| Website fixes | Depends on your skills | Usually separate | Often a separate team or invoice | Same team: we build and fix websites too |
| Arabic content | Hard without help | Varies | Usually available | English only for now |
| Who you talk to | Yourself | One person | Account manager | The founders directly |
| Local office | – | – | Yes | No. Remote team in India, 1.5 hours ahead of UAE time |
The trade-off is simple. A local agency gives you face-to-face meetings at a higher price. A remote specialist team gives you senior people and lower costs for yourself. with calls and WhatsApp instead of office visits.
